As a testament to the hard work of our constituents in Batley and Spen to follow the Government guidelines, we have thankfully seen low numbers of new COVID-19 cases, patients and deaths in recent weeks.
Furthermore, thanks to the incredible job of Kirklees Council in implementing the local restrictions – including a rapid increase in testing capacity – we have also seen very low and stable levels of hospital patients with COVID-19 across Kirklees.
After speaking with the Council, I am therefore calling for the Government to lift the additional restrictions placed on Kirklees and for the Government to give additional support to the Council so they can combat coronavirus spikes and support our struggling businesses.
Indeed, many businesses have been badly affected due to these additional restrictions, and now is the time for the Government to acknowledge the progress we have made. With this in mind, I have written to the Government urging them to lift the restrictions so that Batley and Spen, and the whole of Kirklees, can begin to get back to some semblance of normality.
